We will do a consultation prior to beginning treatment to go over expectations, and determine. if you are a good candidate for teeth whitening.
We always see at least 4 shades of difference. Some people see 6-12 shades! Depending on your starting shade, a touch up session may be required to reach your maximum whitening effect. Most people experience little to no sensitivity at all.
If you do happen to experience any sensitivity it is typically very mild when you drink or eat something cold and subsides in 24-48 hours.
If you already have sensitivity, we recommend using a Sensodyne tooth paste for 2 weeks prior to your appointment to minimize any increased sensitivity. If your crowned/veneered tooth is whiter than your natural teeth that is great. This is ideal because whitening will help match your natural teeth color as close as possible to your crowned/veneered one.
If your crown/veneer is the same color or a bit darker than your natural teeth, whitening would not be a good idea. Crowns/veneers do not whiten past their original color. Whitening your natural teeth will make the crown more contrasting against the whiter natural teeth.
If you plan of getting the crown redone then we do recommend coming in so that your dentist can match the new one to your new whitened smile. Those random white spots on teeth come from hypo-calcification or the loss of calcium in the tooth's enamel. Common causes are exposure to too much fluoride, a high sugar or acid diet, heavy plaque, or braces. It is super common to have.
During the whitening these spots that were already present will react and be 'extra' visible. Don't worry! Those 'spots' gradually will be less over the course of the next few days and will end up as you previously had those spots.Standard Whitening is 2 applications and it takes about an hour.
Advanced Extreme Whitening is 3 applications and it takes about an hour and a half.
Your gums will be protected and the application is self administered.
You will wipe and reapply fresh whitening gel for each session.Think of whitening as an oil change. You come back just to maintain the whiteness. It does. not mean it goes away quick. This treatment oxidizes years worth of stians.
How long your teeth stay bright white will also depend on what you put in your mouth. Smokers and coffee/tea drinkers may need to come more often. We generally recommend that you return every 4-6 months.
To maximize results and prevent any color relapse, touch ups can be done 2 weeks after an initial whitening. The hydrogen Peroxide Whitening gel with the LED light will cause your dental tubules "pores" to stay open for 24 hours. The good part is that the chemical stays inside working for about 1 additional shade whiter overnight. The bad part is that you cannot eat and drink colored things because the "pores" are like a sponge and could result in color relapse.
